How this site was made — the tools behind it, and where we use AI.
This site is designed and built in-house by WYEL. It is intentionally lightweight: static where possible, dynamic only where it earns its place — built to stay fast, readable, and easy to maintain.
Words & pictures
We use AI as a tool, with a person accountable for the result.
- Imagery
- Some cover images, work thumbnails, and share cards may be AI-generated or AI-assisted. They are selected, cropped, edited, and optimised by us before they appear on the site.
- Writing
- Articles and page copy are written by us, sometimes with AI assistance. Every published piece is edited, reviewed, and approved by a human before it goes live.
Client-confidential material is never entered into public AI tools. Where AI is used in client work, the tools, data handling, and review are agreed with the client.
Nothing ships unreviewed. If a picture or a sentence is off, that is on us — not the model.
Design
Drawn like a drafting sheet.
The visual system borrows from architectural drafting plates and engineering schematics: a warm off-white sheet, dark technical linework, faint grids, dimension marks, and restrained accent colours.
Switch to dark mode and the same drawing reads as a blueprint — pale linework on deep navy. The site remembers your choice.
Each section is treated as a drawing layer, with its own accent colour: sage, teal, slate, plum, clay, or amber.
Space Grotesk sets the headings, Inter the body, and JetBrains Mono the labels and code. All type is self-hosted.

Performance & accessibility
Pages are prerendered and served from the edge. JavaScript is kept minimal, fonts are self-hosted, and imagery is optimised ahead of time.
Motion respects reduced-motion preferences, colour and type are chosen for contrast and legibility, and the layout stays readable and usable from phone to desktop.
Analytics are consent-gated and used to understand site performance, not to identify individual visitors.
